Rebecca Barker, RCC

Rebecca Barker, Clinical Counsellor in Vancouver and Online Across Canada

Rebecca Barker is the owner and clinical counsellor at Healthy Hearts and Minds Counselling and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) based in Vancouver, BC. She offers calm, person‑centred counselling for children, youth, adults, couples, and families, with a focus on creating treatment plans that are as unique as the people she works with. Rebecca provides secure online sessions with some evening and weekend availability, so you can access support in a way that fits your busy life from Vancouver or anywhere in Canada.

Who Rebecca works with

Rebecca is happy to meet with every new client who crosses her path and has more than 20 years of experience supporting:

  • Children and youth of all ages and their families.
  • Adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, and major life changes.
  • Individuals experiencing eating disorders, anger management difficulties, self‑harm, suicidal thoughts, and attachment concerns.
  • Couples and families who want support through conflict, disconnection, or the impact of mental health and addiction.

Experience and background

Rebecca has over two decades of experience working with children and families in the public school system in British Columbia. During this time, she has counselled and built strong therapeutic alliances with individuals facing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, anger management difficulties, self‑harm, suicidal ideation, and attachment disorders. She brings this deep experience with development, family systems, and education into her private practice work with clients of all ages.

How Rebecca works

Rebecca believes every person is unique—and their plan of treatment should reflect that. She draws on person‑centred, solution‑focused, and mindfulness‑based techniques to create a treatment plan specific to each client’s needs, always moving at a pace that feels manageable and respectful. Her approach is warm, trauma‑informed, and collaborative: she looks closely at the different stages of a person’s development to help find the root of the difficulties they may be experiencing, and then works with you to take small, practical steps toward real change.

Rebecca is passionate about:

  • Counselling clients, couples, and families through a trauma‑informed lens.
  • Examining developmental history to better understand current struggles.
  • Using mindfulness, solution‑focused tools, and person‑centred therapy to support realistic, day‑to‑day change.

Areas of focus

People often come to work with Rebecca for support with:

  • Anxiety, worry, and feeling  on edge.
  • Depression, low mood, and feeling stuck or hopeless.
  • Eating disorders and disordered eating patterns.
  • Anger management difficulties and impulsive reactions.
  • Self‑harm behaviours and suicidal thoughts.
  • Attachment concerns, relationship struggles, and family conflict.

Location and availability

Rebecca offers counselling through a secure online platform to add convenience to the busy lives her clients lead. From her base in Vancouver, she works with clients across British Columbia and in other Canadian provinces and territories where she is registered. She provides some evening and weekend appointments so therapy can fit around work, school, and family commitments, rather than competing with them.
